Front Doors in South London & Surrey, Fitted by Local Experts

Your front door is the first thing people see and the last thing you lock at night. It has to look good, keep the cold out and stand up to a break-in attempt. Most doors we’re asked to replace fail on at least one of those.

At Glitz Windows & Doors, we supply and fit front doors across South London and Surrey. We’re a family-run business based in Coulsdon with more than 25 years of hands-on experience. You deal with us directly, not a call centre, from the first measure to the final handle adjustment.

Front Doors Made to Measure for Your Home

Every door we fit is made to measure, so we never squeeze a stock size into an awkward opening. You choose the material, colour, glazing and hardware and we build to that specification. Our installers are FENSA-registered and fit to current Building Regulations. That includes Part L for thermal performance and Part Q for security.

Whether you’re replacing a tired uPVC door on a 1930s semi or fitting something striking on a new build, we’ll help you pick the right material for how you live.

Our Front Doors Material

Composite Front Door

Composite Front Doors

Composite front doors are the most popular choice we fit, and it’s easy to see why. A solid insulated core and tough GRP skin keep the heat in and cope well with British weather, without warping, fading or cracking. You get the warm look of timber with none of the upkeep, plus strong multipoint locking and plenty of colours, textures and glazing options. A quick wipe-down is all it needs to look good for years.

uPVC Front Doors

uPVC Front Doors

uPVC front doors are a sensible, budget-friendly way to upgrade your home. They’re low-maintenance, well insulated and available in a good range of colours and woodgrain finishes. If you want a reliable, secure door without the premium price of a composite, uPVC is a strong choice.

They also pair well with uPVC windows, so you can get a consistent look across the front of your property.

Aluminium Front Doors

Aluminium Front Doors

If your style is more contemporary, aluminium front doors deliver slim sightlines, crisp lines and impressive strength. Our systems are thermally broken, so you get the clean modern look without losing warmth. Powder-coated finishes come in a wide palette of RAL colours and the frames hold their shape and finish for decades.

Aluminium is also a favourite for larger glazed openings and for entrances on modern extensions.

Front Door Repair, Locks and Handles

Not every door needs replacing. If your door is still sound, a repair can save you money and extend its life. We help with:

Front door repair

Dropped or sticking doors, worn hinges, damaged seals, draughts and misaligned frames

Front door lock replacement

Worn or stiff locks, failed multipoint mechanisms and upgrades to higher-security cylinders

Front door handle replacement

Loose, snapped or tired handles, including a full set of new furniture

Front door knob replacement

Swapping old knobs for modern handles or replacing a centre door knob

If we inspect a door and replacement makes more sense than repair, we’ll tell you plainly.

Residential and Commercial Front Doors

  • Residential front doors. From period terraces in Croydon to detached homes in Surrey, we fit doors that suit the character of the property. If you live in a conservation area or an older home, we can recommend styles that sit comfortably with the existing look.
  • Commercial front doors. Shops, offices and other business premises have different needs: heavier daily use, tighter security and often accessibility requirements. We supply commercial front doors built for that wear and fitted with minimal disruption to your opening hours.

What Our Customers Says About Us

Front Door - FAQs

The steps depend on the lock type. For a standard euro cylinder:

  1. Unscrew the retaining screw in the edge of the door (the faceplate).
  2. Turn the key slightly, then slide the old cylinder out.
  3. Measure it carefully (inside and outside lengths).
  4. Fit a new cylinder of the same size and tighten the screw.

For multipoint locks, the gearbox and hooks are more involved and getting the alignment wrong can leave the door hard to close or poorly secured. Lock replacement is a quick job for a professional and we can do it for you.

Often you don’t. Moving or changing a front door on a single-dwelling house is commonly allowed under permitted development. There are exceptions, including flats, listed buildings, properties in conservation areas or under an Article 4 direction and any door that opens onto a classified road. Building Regulations may still apply, particularly around structural openings.

Yes. Timber and aluminium doors can be repainted and uPVC can be painted with a paint made for it. Composite doors can be painted too, but check first: the wrong paint can damage the finish or affect your guarantee. For the longest-lasting colour change, a factory finish in your chosen shade is often the better option for new doors.

Yes, when they’re made properly. Glazed front doors use toughened or laminated safety glass, which is far stronger than ordinary glass. If it does break, it’s designed to crumble into small blunt pieces or hold together rather than shatter into shards. Combined with multipoint locking, they can be just as secure as solid doors.

No, there’s no rule. Your front door faces the street and must handle the weather, so it’s built differently. Many people choose a statement colour outside and keep their interior doors neutral. What matters more is that the front door suits your home’s style and that the hallway, when you step in, feels cohesive.

It depends on material, size, glazing and hardware. A uPVC door usually sits at the more affordable end, while composite and aluminium doors cost more for added strength and finish. We’ll give you a written quote after a free measure so you know the exact price.

Most standard front door replacements take about a day. Doors with sidelights, fanlights or structural changes can take a little longer. We’ll confirm the schedule before we start.

Often, yes. Sticking doors, worn hinges, failed seals, broken handles and faulty locks can usually be repaired. If the frame is warped or the door is past saving, we’ll be upfront and explain why replacement is the better value.
