A dodgy window is more than an annoyance. It lets in draughts, noise and damp, and it can leave your home easy to break into. Most of the time, though, it doesn’t need a whole new window. A worn hinge, a failed seal or a snapped handle can usually be fixed for a fraction of the price.
That’s where we come in. Glitz Windows & Doors works with homeowners, landlords, letting agents and business owners across South London and Surrey. Whether you live in a Victorian terrace in Clapham, a 1930s semi in Sutton or a newer build near Guildford, we’ll come out, look at the problem and tell you what’s needed. If a repair will do the job, we’ll say so. If it won’t, we’ll explain why before you spend anything.
Windows fail in lots of different ways, and the right fix depends on the frame material and how the window opens. These are the repairs we’re called out for most.
uPVC is tough, but the moving parts wear out. Hinges sag, gaskets shrink, handles snap and frames drop slightly, so the window rubs or won’t lock. If you’re looking for someone to repair uPVC windows properly rather than just squirt some oil on them, we’ll adjust, realign or replace whatever has failed. Most uPVC window repairs are quick and leave the window closing tight again.
Aluminium frames are slim and strong, and they’re common in flats, shopfronts and modern extensions. When something goes wrong it’s usually rollers, seals, corner joints or a stiff locking mechanism. Aluminium window repair needs the right parts and a bit of patience, because the frames are fine-tolerance. We’ll get the window running smoothly and sealing properly without replacing the whole frame.
If your double glazing has gone foggy between the panes, the seal has failed and moisture has got in. The frame is often perfectly fine. In most cases we can swap the sealed unit and leave the frame in place, which is far cheaper than a full replacement. We also deal with cracked panes, worn glazing beads and draughty seals. If you need glass window replacement, we’ll measure up and fit a new unit to match.
A window that won’t lock is a security problem, and it can also affect your home insurance. We repair and replace handles, multi-point locking systems, cylinder locks and restrictors. It’s usually one of the quickest jobs we do, and it makes a real difference to how safe the property feels.
Shops, offices, schools, pubs and rental blocks can’t leave a broken window sitting there for weeks. For commercial window repair, we work around your opening hours where we can and keep disruption low. We handle the same range of problems as for homes, including failed units, broken locks and stuck frames, across both uPVC and aluminium.
Different window styles fail in different ways. Knowing which type you’ve got helps us diagnose things faster.
Sash windows are beautiful, but they're fussy. Snapped cords, stuck sashes, rattling and rotten sills are all common, especially in older South London properties. Sash window repair often means new cords or balances, easing the frame, and replacing damaged parts so the window slides properly again. Many sash windows that seem beyond saving can be brought back to life.
These windows open in two ways, so there's more that can go wrong. If yours won't tilt, drops when you open it, or the handle feels loose or stiff, the hardware has probably slipped or worn out. Tilt and turn window repair usually involves resetting or replacing the gearing, hinges or stays. It's fiddly, but it's rarely a reason to replace the window.
Casements are hinged at the side or top and swing outward. Over time the friction stays, hinges and handles wear, and the sash drops so it catches on the frame. Casement window repair is usually a matter of replacing the worn hardware and realigning the window so it closes flush.
Bay and bow windows are made up of several panels, and they carry a lot of weight. Sagging, gaps at the joints, failed seals and draughts are the usual complaints. Bay and bow window repair takes care and a good eye for structure, because the problem isn't always the window itself. We'll check the supports and joints as part of the job.
Flush sash windows sit level with the frame for a neat, traditional look. They're popular in uPVC, and when they go wrong you'll usually see stiff opening, worn friction hinges or seals that no longer close tight. Flush sash window repair focuses on those hinges and seals, as well as any glazing issues, to bring back that clean, snug fit.
Windows rarely fail overnight. They give you warning signs first, and the earlier you deal with them, the cheaper the fix tends to be. Watch out for:
Draughts around the frame, even when the window is shut
Condensation or mist trapped between the panes
Windows that stick, drop or won't stay open
Handles that are loose, stiff or broken
Locks that don't engage properly
Cracked or chipped glass
Damp patches, mould or water marks on the sill or surrounding wall
Noise from outside that seems louder than it used to be
Higher heating bills with no obvious cause
One of these on its own is usually fixable. Several at once might point to a bigger problem, and that's worth a proper look.
Repair usually makes sense when the frame is sound and the problem is a part that’s worn out: a hinge, handle, lock, seal or glass unit. It’s also the sensible choice if the windows are fairly young and just need a bit of adjusting.
Replacement starts to make sense when the frame itself is warped, cracked or rotten, when several windows are failing at once, or when the windows are 25 years old or more and struggling to keep the heat in. Repeated call-outs for the same window are another hint that you’re throwing good money after bad.
We won’t push you towards the expensive option. If we think a repair will give you a few more years, we’ll say so. If a replacement is better value, we’ll explain why. And if you want to know what a full replacement would look like, we’ll give you the numbers so you can compare.
We do home window repair on pretty much every kind of property you’ll find across South London and Surrey. That includes Victorian and Edwardian terraces, 1930s semis, modern flats, new-build estates, converted period properties and larger family homes.
Older properties tend to have sash windows and timber frames with their own quirks. Newer homes usually have uPVC or aluminium, and the problems are more likely to be hardware or seals. Landlords and letting agents often call us for fast fixes between tenants, and we’re used to working around occupied homes without making a mess.
We keep it simple.
Call or send us a message and tell us what's wrong. Photos help.
We check the window, find the actual cause and explain your options in plain English.
You'll know the price before we start, with no surprises.

I had several quotes from the large national companies and local companies. From the outset Adeel from Glitz made me feel comfortable, no pressure selling like some of the others, no over quoting or recommending extra equipment that wasn't needed, just a fair and honest assessment. Once I received the quote Adeel was very attentive, giving us his time to make some final design choices which was really helpful as we were new to this. Throughout the process Adeel kept us informed and made us feel comfortable. The work was carried out well and the installers were great. Repairs like new handles, hinges or a replacement glass unit are usually far cheaper than a whole new window. Full replacement costs depend on the material, size and style. We’ll give you a proper quote after seeing the windows.
Yes, in most cases. If the seal has failed or the glass is cracked, we can often replace just the glazed unit and keep the existing frame.
Yes. We repair both, along with a range of window styles, for homes and commercial properties.
Not by cleaning it, unfortunately. Once moisture is trapped between the panes, the seal has failed. The fix is to replace the sealed unit, which is usually much cheaper than replacing the whole window.
Yes. We repair sash, tilt and turn, casement, flush sash, and bay and bow windows.
Simple jobs like a handle or lock can take under an hour. Glass unit replacements and more involved repairs can take longer if parts need ordering. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe when we quote.
Repairing is usually cheaper if the frame is in good condition. If the frame is damaged, or the windows are old and inefficient, replacement can be better value in the long run.
Yes. We repair windows for shops, offices, pubs, schools and other commercial properties, and we try to keep disruption to a minimum.
